ABB BE/S8.230.3.2 is the ABB i-bus® KNX Binary Input, 8-fold, 10-230V, Manual Operation, MDRC. It brings 8 conventional binary signals into KNX and is intended for 35 mm DIN-rail installation in an electrical distribution board. Its inputs are designed for 10…230 V AC/DC signals (rated input range 0…265 V, signal 0 at 0…2 V and signal 1 at 9…265 V, input current ≤ 1 mA).

Typical sources include energized status outputs, contactor feedback, control-voltage presence, mains-status monitoring, and AC/DC limit or signalling circuits. The device is powered from KNX TP at a rated 30 V DC (permitted bus range 21…31 V DC), draws < 5 mA, and has bus-side power loss ≤ 250 mW. KNX Data Secure is supported when commissioned accordingly in ETS.

Input Behaviour and Model Selection

Unlike a .20 contact-scanning device, this .230 version measures an externally present voltage. Do not use it as a source for scanning a floating contact.

Installation and Safety

Installation and commissioning must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the ABB instructions and applicable electrical rules. Mount the MDRC device in a suitable enclosure on 35 mm DIN rail, maintain separation between KNX SELV wiring and other circuits, and disconnect hazardous voltages before wiring. The input terminals may carry hazardous mains voltage; use the type-specific connection diagram and observe DC polarity.
